co-creating
futures without violence
cultivating a restorative community
Healing Courage joins with the newly created Jefferson county Advisory Council for Community Justice to launch an initiative that aims to address harm in our community with a focus on healing, accountability & repair.
There is a community-based justice pilot program in Jefferson County accepting inquiries and referrals, focused on supporting elder survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, financial exploitation, neglect, and abandonment. This collective effort has the potential to extend well beyond the current grant period and help our county move towards a more just and restorative Jefferson County, across all ages, sectors, and systems of care.
This restorative pathway was developed in response to the reality that many survivors - particularly elder survivors and those impacted by systemic inequities - often do not find healing, safety, or meaningful accountability through traditional systems alone.
Designed through months of community conversations, survivor engagement, learning circles, and collaboration with advocates, behavioral health providers, legal system stakeholders, restorative justice practitioners, and community members, insights gathered through these conversations helped shape program values, referral pathways, participation guidelines, and restorative practices. Survivor voices and lived experiences also helped shape the foundation of the program and continue to guide its development. Those participating in the project explored both the possibilities and limitations of restorative approaches while centering survivor agency, choice, and wellbeing.
